Social media is a powerful tool to make the most of your events, initiatives, and time at UMSU...

Department socials

Each UMSU department has its own social media pages*. It is your department’s responsibility to run these pages and legally, you need to moderate your socials including any content uploaded to them.

Having your own socials pages helps your department to better connect with its audience. It also gives you the opportunity to be creative with the content you post and control over when it’s uploaded.

If you’re feeling stuck or need some assistance with your socials, get in touch with our Help Desk via Live Chat or by submitting a request!

UMSU ‘main’ socials

The Comms team looks after the UMSU main social accounts (@UMSUunimelb), as well as our weekly e-newsletter. We use these accounts to keep students up to date with all the latest things happening across UMSU – such as events, campaigns, volunteer opportunities and other important info.

We can use UMSU’s socials feeds to amplify your messages! Tag us @UMSUunimelb so we can reshare your Stories and Posts on FB, or add UMSU as a collaborator on your IG posts. Keep in mind that growing your own department socials should be the top priority, UMSU is a signal boost, if you will. 😊

Things that would be appropriate for UMSU to share (if we're tagged on FB) or for you to add us as a collaborator on are:

  • Collectives

  • Upcoming events

  • Surveys

  • Campaigns

  • Wholesome moments / dept-related twists on viral-type trends (careful to tune your controversy radar

Things more appropriate for your own channels would be the day-to-day stuff. Things like snippets of department news, updates, general operational or other pieces of info that complement your larger activities.

How we use UMSU socials

To make sure all departments are getting proportionate airtime, the Comms team is responsible for planning when content will be posted on UMSU’s feeds or if collaborator requests will be accepted. We’ll try our best to accommodate any requests, but we cannot guarantee times or slots.
